Have you ever watched the flying police car named “Spinner” in 1982 released film Blade Runner? Fantasy has just turned to reality by the launch of SD-03 flying car model. The concept of the flying car is a combo of ideas from automobiles and aircraft.
On 25 August 2020, Japanese company SkyDrive has successfully conducted the manned 4-minute flight of SD-03 flying car model over the 2.5 acre Toyota test field. The company hopes to extend to a duration of 30 minutes at 40mph(miles per hour). It is the world’s smallest eVTOL(electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) model.
SD-03 FLYING CAR
SD-03 car is having the height of two metres, with length and width of four metres. It fits in the space of two vehicles and operates on four propellers and eight motors. Out of the 8 motors, 4 points upwards and 4 downwards. And this is to ensure safety during take-off and landing. The SD-03 car is having the Pearl white colour. This white depicts the floating clouds, white birds in the sky.
Eventhough there exists hundreds of flying car projects worldwide, only a few have succeeded. And SkyDrive’s project, “Cartivator” is one among them. It is the Japan’s first ever manned flight that has conducted successfully. A pilot controlled the car and computer assisted control system ensured the stability and safety of it. Meanwhile the performance and flight conditions of SD-03 is evaluated by field technical staffs.
The direction of the car’s movement is indicated with two different coloured lights. They are two white lights in the front and a red light which is running around the bottom of the car’s body. With the invention of flying cars, the struggle in airport procedures and traffic jams can be reduced. The company hopes to produce a two-seater SD-03 by 2023.
Through SD-03 car, SkyDrive is ready to revolutionize the transportation industry. Let’s hope for a pollution-free environment. In addition to that, we are expected to receive a comfortable new way of life through this invention.
