A mysterious object shook the scientific world back in 2017 upon its discovery. From the moment of its discovery, this rather strange astronomical object was an unsolved puzzle. ‘Oumuamua’ which means “a messenger from afar arriving first” in Hawaiian, is an interstellar object that visited our Solar System. The shape of this object is one of the main highlights that piques our curiosity. It has an elongated, cigar-shaped body that is rather unique from different interstellar objects we have discovered till now. So naturally, a plethora of questions arose.”How was it formed, and where did it come from? As such, a new study offered comprehensive answers to these.
They showed that ‘Oumuamua’- like interstellar objects could be formed through extensive tidal fragmentation during close interaction by their parent body with their host star. Which is then ejected into interstellar space. The colour of the object and the absence of radio emission pointed out that ‘Oumuamua’ is a natural object and not some probe sent out by some other beings.
