SpaceX is about to launch its riskiest and most critical mission to date. Eighteen years after Elon Musk founded SpaceX, the rocket company is preparing to launch its First Humans to The Space Station. On May 27, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley will board Space X’s new crew. Dragon spaceship and ride it to space atop a Falcon 9 rocket.
The Demo 2 test mission for NASA will launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida and take about nine minutes to reach orbit. The astronauts will live on the space station for about 3 months before they climb back inside the space capsule, return to earth, and parachute into the Atlantic ocean.
On May 27 at 4.33 pm EDT, or Thursday, 28 May 2.02 am IST, the two men are scheduled to ride Space X’s Crew Dragon ship into orbit-a risky test flight called Demo 2 and become SpaceX’s first human passengers.
NASA and SpaceX are targeting 4:33 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 27, for the launch of the Demo-2 flight, which will be the first time a commercially built and operated American rocket and spacecraft will carry humans to the space station. The launch, as well as other activities leading up to the launch, will air live on NASA Television and the agency’s website.
