Space travel has now become a very hot topic after the recent developments. Leading countries like the United States are striving hard to set new records in space travel. NASA has long been making efforts to keep humans alive on Mars. As a part of that, NASA is currently looking for human candidates to live for a year in a Martian-like environment. NASA is currently accepting applications for this.

Space travel has now moved from the government to the private hands. Many private companies are now showing more interest in space research and trying to make it more feasible. Though the introduction of reusable rockets by firms like SpaceX and Blue Origin has made spaceflight cheaper, it is noteworthy that more than $ 1 million was recently charged for a single spaceflight.
Want to live in a environment like Mars?
With all of this in mind, it is clear that most of us will not get to enjoy space travel in our life time. However, NASA has created an opportunity for you with their new series of missions called The Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA). This series include three one-year Mars surface simulations based at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. NASA will select four new people in each missions . Fear not, NASA is not really going to send you to Mars. You will be tested in an environment like Mars. This test will be conducted for one year.
NASA plans to hire people who are willing to live for a year in an environment similar to Mars. Mars Dune Alpha is a unique 3D printed habitat designed to serve as an analog to the martian surface. The selected applicants will have to live here for an entire year. Their tasks may include participation in scientific research, use of virtual reality and robotic controls, and time delays in communication. NASA has begun accepting applications for the contract.
How many volunteers are they planning to take?
Leading scientist Grace Douglas said that with this experiment, they would like to understand how the human body functions in the Martian environment. NASA will select four volunteers to participate in this experience. NASA says that they should gain enough Mars like experience in this experiment.
What will you be facing in this test?
NASA says it will be a tough test, with restricted food and resources, equipment failures and limited communications with people at home. For the next one year they will only be able to eat the space food provided by the research team.
What happened to the ‘Mars 500’ test conducted by Russia?
A few plants will be grown inside the pretend space bubble but don’t expect much. This is not the first time space research centers have attempted such experiments. Russia has in the past attempted a similar test mission known as the ‘Mars 500’. However, the experiment was not successful, so it is likely to be a lucky one that is good for NASA. Who is eligible for this NASA test?
The tests are planned in several phases, with the first set reportedly set to begin in the fall of 2022. NASA is looking for the best of the best. NASA says it is mandatory for selected candidates to have a master’s degree in science, engineering or mathematics. Having pilot experience is acceptable. It is a pity that this test is only open to permanent U.S. residents or U.S. citizens. Applicants must be between 30 and 55 years of age. NASA has said that those selected must be in good health. People with better research profile and physical fitness are more likely to be selected for this program.
