NASA’s Lunar Loo Challenge for Public.

NASA’s Lunar Loo Challenge for Public.

Life in Space is different we all do know that, yet the basic necessities of a man need to be fulfilled.
Hence here comes something very interesting which has been put up by the Artemis astronauts exploring the moon!!! These astronauts are in search of someone who can innovate the space toilet.

‘The Lunar Loo Challenge’ as it is named, is an open challenge thrown to the public. This can help them bring in a wide variety of ideas. Astronauts exploring the Moon will need a smaller toilet inside their lunar lander since every ounce of mass in the lander is carefully allocated.

The Lunar Loo challenge checks out for compact toilets that replaces the current ones in terms of their weight from 54kg to 31kg also the estimated volume of the toilet should be reduced from 0.17 cubic meters to 0.12 cubic meters.
The design concept must allow the astronauts to urinate and defecate both in lunar gravity and micro gravity.

The Evaluation Process.

Evaluation of the submitted ideas will be on the basis of proposed capabilities, technical maturity, safety and overall innovation. The technical prize is open to anyone of the age of 18 or above. The organisation allows both individual and team participation. The Junior challenge is open to anyone under the age of 18. Those entrants of 12 years of age or below will need a guardian to register on their behalf.
The total prize pursued for this challenge is $35, 000 that will be shared among the top 3 designs. The top 3 junior participants would receive public recognition and an item of official NASA Merchandise.

“The global community of innovators provides valuable insight and expertise we might not have in-house” says Steve Rader, Deputy Manager of NASA Tournament Lab(NTL).
So what are you waiting for!!! Grab the opportunity, who knows maybe you might be one among the finalists.
